Today, 437 years ago, in the year 1583, Rabbi Yitzchak Melling, the Rav of Prague passed away.
Prague was one of the most famous Jewish communities in Europe. As famous as Prague was, unknown, were a great selection of its Rabbanim. One of them was R’ Yitzchak Melling.
R’ Yitzchak is mentioned by his contemporary, Rabbi David Ganz, as being Rav of the community for thirty years and one of the Roshei Yeshiva of the community. He was succeeded by Rabbi Yitzchak Chayos, the brother-in-law of the Maharal of Prague.
R’ Yitzchak was survived by his son Rabbi Chaim, Dayan and Rosh Yeshiva of Prague.
