Grabowiec 1809: Rabbi Chaim Hochgelernter passed away
R’ Chaim was the son of the Mishnas Chachamim of Zamość. When Zamość was besieged by Napoleon’s forces, R’ Chaim and his family fled to Grabowiec. There the whole family fell victim to an epidemic that was taking its toll on the city inhabitants. R’ Chaim passed away 24 Adar, he was less than 40 years of age. Two days later, his rebbetzin passed away. 2 days went by, and her mother fell victim, so died all their children, but for one, young Moshe Yakov, who was taken for adoption by his uncle R’ Yitzchak Hochgelerenter of Zamość.
