Alter JΓΌdischer Friedhof Eisenstadt

Eisenstadt, 1759: Matzeivos shall not be wider than 2/3rd of a cubit wide.

It seems that the Eisenstadters tried their luck, one last time, to have compliments engraved on their gravestones. In 1718 a rule was instigated, that the rav will be the one writing the text for each gravestone, as not to exceed it with untruthful compliments. In 1759, it was realized, that the Eisenstadters found a different way, how to fulfill their desire, by building oversized super-wide gravestones. In 1759, this was limited as well.
