Today, in the year 1800, the Ba’al HaTanyah was released from Prison.

Rabbi Shneur Zalman, known as the Maggid of Liozna and more commonly referred to as the Ba’al HaTanyah, faced imprisonment twice at the hands of the Russian authorities. His first release occurred on the 19th of Kislev, a date that is celebrated by the Lubavitcher Chassidim.

The second time he was released was on the 5th night of Chanukah, a day that is honored by his descendants, possibly marking the day he returned home.
