Poznań, 1712: Rabbi Mordechai Yaffe passed away.

R’ Mordechai, is known as the “Levush”. “Levush” is the prefix to his sefarim which all have the word “Levush” prefixed to their name. The names of his sefarim are based on the verse in Megillas Esther, “U’Mordechai yatza…:

On his gravestone, the date of his passing is given as “3 Adar 372”. [5]372 was a leap year. This makes us wonder, in which month he passed away, Adar A or Adar B. How did we come to this conclusion?

Interestingly enough it is R’ Mordechai himself, who revealed it to us. It is  a haskama–approbation he gave to the sefer Be’er Sheva, which is dated, 6 Adar A 372.”
