Cracow 1633: The young mekubal the gaon Rabbi Nusen Spira passed away.
He left behind his widow, Royse, his sons Moshe, Shlomo and Yitzchak, and his daughters Yittel, Lipshe, Dobrish, Yitte, Chvalis Frayde and Chava Devorah.
As exclaimed by Rabbi Avraham Schrenzeles in his eulogy on R’ Nusen, and as written by his son Rabbi Shlomo Spira in his preface to the sefer Megaleh Amukos. Eliyahu HaNavi once revealed himself to R’ Nusen, and shared with him that the angels in heaven sing his tune, which he used to chant tikkun chatzos every night.
He was only 48 years old, but he left us a legacy for generations to come – his holy sefarim the Megaleh Amukos.
R’ Nusen, was laid to rest in the old cemetery in Cracow and was later joined by his wife and children.
