Pumbedita, 505: Rav Achai bar Rav Huna passed away.
R’ Achai was the RoshYeshiva of Pumbedita for one year, during the times of the Sevuraim. This is the short period between the Amaraim and the Geonim.
It must be noted that the date given is ‘Sunday,’ 4 Adar 816 GE, which corresponds to 505 CE. Within the decade of his passing, 4 Adar did not occur on a Sunday. Perhaps he passed away a year later, 506, Sunday night after nightfall, which was 4 Adar.
