Frankfurt, 1901: Baron Wilhelm Carl von Rothschild passed away.

The tzadik Baron Rothschild, was very famous for his generous support and philanthropy, especially towards Polish Jewry. He was a grandson of the renowned Meyer Amschel Rothschild.

It is interesting to note. The name Rothschild denotes a red shield. The houses in Frankfurt were known by the images on them. One of the houses had a Red Shield on it, but Mayer Amschel actually lived in the Green Schield House in Frankfurt. Their name originates from their forefathers who lived for generations in the Red Shield house and were identified with it, hence their surname.
