Artwork by Alex Levin.

Today was a holiday, as mentioned in Megillas Taanis.

As a matter of fact, from the 1st to the 7th Nissan, is one Yom-Tov, and from 8 until after Pesach another. The first set came to mark the victory over the Sadducees/Tzadokim. The second set came to mark their victory over the Boethusians/Baysosim.

It seems that there was a struggle between the Pharisees/Perushim over how things should be implemented in the Beis Hamikdash, and Baruch Hashem, the Pharisees won, and the correct procedures were put into place.Β
