Paris 1240: The famous disputation of Rabeinu Yechiel takes place in the royal palace.
Rabeinu Yechiel from Paris, the Sema”g and another 2 gedolei Yisrael, were called by surprise to partake in a so-called dispute but turned out to be an interrogation, in the Royal Palace in Paris, where the Talmud was questioned.
Rabeinu Yechiel successfully answered all their questions, and the event was proclaimed to be a success from a Jewish point of view. Although the Christians couldn’t prove the case otherwise, they did not accept all the answers, and the Talmud was ordained to be burned.
