Dubno, 1823: The Shaarei Teshuva passed away.

Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Margulies from Dubno, was a brother of the renowned Rabbi Zalman Margulies from Brody a.k.a. the Beis Ephrayim.

R’ Chaim Mordechai, started to write a commentary on Shulchan Aruch, but sadly enough, he didn’t survive to finish it. His brother, R’ Zalman, took it upon himself to finish his work. This is the commentary Shaarei Teshuva, which is found on the page of any edition of Shulchan Aruch, and Mishnah Berurah

This is the reason why, on the title page, the commentary is accredited to R’ Chaim Mordechai, whilst in the commentary, we find R’ Zalman, referring to his own other works.
