The Bach’s house is seen to the right.

Cracow, 1621: Tragedy befell the city.

That evening, the young R’ Yaakov, son of R’ Elchanan, fell down backward from a staircase. He broke his neck and died.

R’ Yaakov, was the son-in-law of the local Rav, Rabbi Yoel Sirkes, known as the Bach. He must have been very young since, in the register of Cracow, it is noted that he was yet without a beard.
