Frankfurt, 1711: A fire broke out in the Judengasse of Frankfurt which destroyed the houses on this road.
In those days, all the Jews of Frankfurt lived on one single road, called Judengasse – Jews Road. When the fire destroyed the road, the whole community was left homeless overnight.
The rav of the community was Rabbi Naftali HaCohen, the author of the sefer Semichas Chachamim. He was accused of starting the fire since it started right next to his house. He was arrested and eventually had to flee the city.
Incidentally, his yahrzeit is today too. He passed away exactly 7 years later in Istanbul, on his journey to Eretz Yisrael.
