Alter Jüdischer Friedhof Eisenstadt

Eisenstadt, 1759: No wide Gravestones allowed anymore.

It seems that the Eisenstadters just loved their gravestones. They liked them very wide. As a matter of fact, they just loved them, way too wide. So much so that it started to cause big trouble for the gravediggers. Well, the Chevra Kadisha, decided to tackle this issue by coming out with a new rule, “from today onwards, one shall not set a gravestone wider than two thirds of a cubit, in width.”
