Lemberg 1807: Rabbi Yitzchok Ashkenazi of Chodorów passed away.

R’ Yitzchok of Chodorów [Khodoriv, Ukraine], although he authored the sefer Taharas HaKodesh, is quite an unknown gadol beYisrael. What is interesting about him, is a claim that he was a son of the Chacham Tzvi. This is based, solely, on the fact that his father’s name was also Tzvi.

But this is not true. As a matter of fact, although the Chacham Tzvi had 16 children, and only 10 survived childhood, we find in history books a list of 29 of his so-called children, one of them – R’ Yitzchok Ashkenazi.
