The Bar Mitzvah Confundle.

Today, 13 years in the future, in the year 2035… Oops, we have a problem, there will not be such a date in 13 years’ time!

Do you see where we are getting? Yes, first a Mazal Tov, to all parents, who had and are having a baby boy today. They are most probably not aware of their futuristic problem!

In 13 years time there will not be such a date as 30 Cheshvan.

Today is the 1st day of Rosh Chodesh Kislev and the last day of Cheshvan, that’s one day before the 1st of Kislev. So when will today’s newborns have their Bar Mitzvah, on the last day of Cheshvan, the 29th, or the 1st of Kislev? [This year the girls are lucky].

The Magen Avraham, OC 55:10, writes that one has Bar Mitzvah, after 13 years of his life, therefore, his Bar Mitzvah will be the day after the last day of Cheshvan, which is the 1st of Kisle

NB The same problem arises in 3 years time, in time for the Upsheren
