Birya, Upper Galilee, 1555: The Shulchan Aruch, was Finalized.
Rabbi Yosef Karo finished editing the first part of his magnum opus, the Shulchan Aruch, in Birya village, Upper Galilee.
Rabbi Yosef added this minute but important detail, at the end of the Shulchan Aruch, before the index. It took him a further 10 years until he saw his work reach the press in Venice, which finally occurred on 18 Kislev 1565.
