Rzeszów Stara Synagogue

Metz, 1733: The Shevus Yaakov passed away.

Shevus Yaakov, is the name of the sefer authored by Rabbi Yaakov Backofen. He was known as R’ Yakov Reischer.

R’ Yaakov was born in Prague, where he was eventually appointed as a Dayan. Thereafter he was invited to be rav in the communities of Reisha [Rzeszów], Lesser Poland – hence his nickname ‘Reischer’. From there he assumed the rabbinical posts in Ansbach, Bavaria; Worms, Rhineland; and lastly in Metz, Kingdom of France, where he passed away.
