Paris, 1244: 24 cartloads of Talmud manuscripts were burned.
All Gemaras and Peirush Rashi, which were annexed four years earlier, were burned at the stake in front of the Notre Dame cathedral.
A Franciscan or Dominican monk lit a candle from the altar, and with this fire, they burned our holy books, 24 cartloads of kisvei kodesh, containing 1,200 holy manuscripts.
