Today starts the summer.

Today, 322 years ago, in the year 1698, a son was born to the Chacham Zvi in Altona.

Although the Chacham Tzvi wasn’t home at the time of the birth, he was on his way back from Bad Ems – a spa on the river Lahn. He made it back in time for the Bris where he acted as his son’s Mohel and gave him the name ‘Yaakov’ after his father Rabbi Yaakov, the Rabbi of Ofen [also know as Obuda]. Little Yaakov grew up to be R’ Yaakov Emden.
