Kozienice, 1770: The Maggid of Koznitz was born.
Rabbi Yisrael Hopstein, known by his magnum opus Avodas Yisrael, was born in Apt [Opatów, Poland] to R’ Shabsai and Mrs Perl. Initially, he lived in Ostrovtse [Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Poland], until he was appointed as Dayan in Maggid Meisharim, in Koznitz. The Koznitzer maggid, as he was known, was one of the four great disciples of the great Rebbe, Reb Meilech of Lizensk [Leżajsk, Poland].
