Ostroh, 1760: Rabbi Meshulam Ashkenazi, celebrated the miracle which happened to him on this day, many years earlier.
Rabbi Meshulam was the youngest son of the Chacham Tzvi. In his sefer he writes: “As we sit with friends, at the Shabbos morning meal, Parshas Shemos, 20 Teves, this year 521, this day I established for myself each year in memory of the miracle, in which death has been turned over to life.”
I’m not sure what miracle he’s referring to and when it happened, but we learn that he made a point to celebrate the anniversary of the miracle with his friends.
