London, 1722: Leib Nordon accuses Rabbi Yakov Emden of drinking non-Kosher coffee

Leib Nordon from London, wrote a letter to his acquaintance Rabbi Yaakov Emden, accusing him of drinking a Coffee in a Coffeehouse.

R’ Yaakov Emden obviously answered him back, that the coffee was 100% acceptable from a Halachic point of view, “Sisi Mei’ai – Rejoice, my innards!” R. Yakov Emden exclaimed on this very English coffee he had.

[In those days, coffee was consumed with no added milk or sugar].
