Russia, 1798 & 1800: The Baβal Hatanya was arrested by the Russian Government.
Rabbi Shneur Zalman, the Maggid of Liozno [LyΓ«zna, Belarus], was arrested twice on suspicion of treason, thanks to fabricated charges and false accusations of Misnagdim [opponents of the Chassidic Movement].
Following his first arrest, he was released on the 19th of Kislev, which is highly celebrated by the Chabad Chassidim. Following his second arrest, he was released on the fifth day of Chanukah, which is celebrated by his descendants.
