Hranice 1794: R’ Duvid’l of Tarnogrod passed away.
Limited information is available regarding his life, and even the identity of his father has been a subject of investigation among various biographers. Recently, we uncovered his gravestone, located far from his native Tarnogrod, Poland. It was revealed that he passed away in Hranice, Czech Republic. As he was a foreigner in that location, his family chose to inscribe his lineage on the gravestone to provide visitors with insight into the individual they were honoring. R’ Duvid’l bore the surname Lerner and resided in Tarnogrod. He was born in 1756, the same year that his namesake, R’ Duvid Ashkenazi, son of the Chacham Zvi, passed away. R’ Duvid’s father was R’ Meshulam Zalman, who served as the Rabbi of Yazlovets and was the son of the aforementioned R’ Duvid Ashkenazi.
