Mantua 1620: Rabbi Menachem Azariah da Fano passed away.

The great Tzaddik and Mekubal Rabbi Menachem Azariah da Fano, is known as the β€˜Rama MiFano’. He was a disciple of Rabbi Moshe Cordovero [Ramak], Rabbi Yisrael Saruq [Mahari Saruq], and Rabbi Yishmael Chanina of Valmontone.

There is a great debate between the gedolei Yisrael, whether the Rema MiFano, sported a beard or not. In the biographical sefer Rabeinu Menachem Azariah MiFano, PiotrkΓ³w 1904, we find evidence from contemporary witnesses that claim he did, and some claim he didn’t.

Looks like at some point he let his beard grow, as we know this was also the case with the Ramchal.
