Lithuania, 1631: The Va’ad HaMedinah of Lita confirmed their debt to R’ Moshe Leizer’s.

The Jewish State Committee of Lithuania or better known as the “Va’ad HaMedinah”, was an umbrella organization of all communities within Lithuania. It was the equivalent of the renowned Va’ad Arba Aratzos–Council of Four Lands which was active within the Polish Kingdom, and the Landsmanschaft active in those days in Bohemia and Moravia.

Not so much is known about R’ Moshe Leizer’s of Brisk. We know that his son Saadia Shaya of Vilna, was the father-in-law of Rabbi Yakov Schorr, the Rav of Brisk and Brody, and his daughter was the mother-in-law of the Famous Rabbi, Reb Heschel of Krakow.
