Jerusalem, 1165: The Rambam arrived in Jerusalem.
The Rambam commemorates this event as follows: “We left Acco [Acre, Israel] to go up to Jerusalem under danger, I entered the big and holy house, and prayed there on Thursday, 6 of the month MarCheshvan.
“On Sunday, the 9th of Cheshvan, we left Jerusalem to Chevron, to kiss the holy graves of our Patriarchs in the cave… and on these two days, I promised that they shall be a Yomtov, a day of prayer and joy, with eating and drinking… and so that I have seen her ruins, may I be zoche, me and the whole of Israel, to see her redemption. Amen.”
