Today 776 years ago, in the year 1244, all Gemaras and Peirush Rashi, which were annexed four years earlier, were burned at the stake in front of the Notre Dame cathedral.

A Franciscan or Dominican monk lit a candle from the altar, and with this fire, they burned our holy books, 24 carriages of kisvei kodesh, containing 1,200 holy manuscripts.

For more information about this, please read Kankan Issue 3-5, “Notre Dame of Fire”.
