Today, in the time of the second Beis Hamikdash, Shimon Hatzadik passed away.
Shimon Hatzadik was the last man of the Knesses haGedolah–Great Assembly.
In his last year, when he went into the holy of holies on Yom Kippur, he saw an old man dressed and wrapped in black. This was contrary to the previous years when he always saw an old man dressed and wrapped in white. Shimon understood that his time had come.
After Sukkos he fell ill for seven days and he passed away.
His demise closed a chapter from our history!
