Today, in the year 1773, the first Lubavitcher Rebbe was born in Liozna, Belarus.

Chassidim in Lubavich

Rabbi Dov Ber was born to his parents Rabbi Schneor Zalman, the maggid of Liozna, and Rebbezen Sterna.

Although he was the first Rebbe of Lubavitch, he was the second Rebbe of the Chabad dynasty. He moved to Lyubavichi, Russia, after his father’s passing, where he took over the mantle of leadership.

R’ Ber, passed away on his 54th birthday, thereby marking today his yahrzeit too.
