Today, 2158 years ago, in the year 3622 AM, the revolt of the Chashmonaim against the Assyrian Greeks started.
It all started at a wedding. The Greeks had issued several evil decrees, and Jews tried to continue life under the circumstances as much as was possible. One decree, known as “ius primae noctis–the right of the first night.”, meaning that the night of the wedding, the kallah must be brought to the ruler before she can go home to her chosson.” At the above-mentioned wedding, the Kallah, who was the daughter of one of the Chashmoniam, decided to bring this decree to an end, and she convinced her brothers to go out against the Greeks. On 17 Elul this decree was annulled.
